Stand-up comedian and media personality, Munawar Faruqui, has been one of the most cancelled people in the country as the comedian has been facing back-to-back show cancellations. He was arrested last year after one of his stand-up stints irked many religious groups and since then, his shows have been cancelled. While Faruqui tried to share his real personality by participating in the reality show hosted by Kangana Ranaut and winning the title, he remains the topic of hatred amongst most netizens.

Recently, during an interaction session with RJ Siddharth Kanan, Munawar Faruqui admitted that he struggled with suicidal thoughts “This body has been given by God. In Islam, many things are ‘haram’ (sin) because they harm your body, like tattoos, cigarette. Ending that body’s existence is considered the biggest sin,” he shared as he recalled his mother’s suicide in 2007. “And I really feel that about my mother, why did she do this? Such a smart woman, why did she do this knowing it’s a sin? It is said that weak people do this, but last 3-4 years I realised that only very strong people can do this,” he added.

Munawar also recalled hearing the news of Indian actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death which shocked the nation and said that his hands kept shaking for two-three days. He further shared that he gave up on the negative thoughts with the help of God and his loved ones. He said, “Even today when I hear news like that, or end up joking about it myself, after a minute I just go back there. And I realise what it takes. When these thoughts started coming into my head, the first thing that stopped me was that God doesn’t allow it, and the second is you start seeing faces. When they hear the news what will be their first reaction?”

Munawar, who emerged as the winner of Lock Upp, recently released a new song, Khawab, which he has written, composed, and sung. In the song, he speaks about the experiences of his life, including the loss of his mother and his newfound fame.
