Actor Vivaan Shah who is playing the role of a scrap dealer in the film Kabaad: The Coin reveals how the film helped him to be aware of the hardships that the community of scrap dealers face in life, while still keeping the city clean.

The actor says that we do not take a moment to stop and contemplate the lives of the kabaadiwalas (scrap dealers) and those who collect garbage from our homes and offices each day. He says that it is their continuous efforts that keep our city clean, and we forget their difficulties such as having to live in extreme poverty and hardship.

Playing a scrap dealer actually has made Vivaan more compassionate towards their community. He believes that there are people in our society who earn less money but are still respected, however, we do not bother giving any respect or financial support to these garbage collectors. He tells us to picture if these people stopped collecting garbage and waste from our homes and offices, we would almost end up living in a garbage yard. He says that the least we can do is thank them but we don’t even say so when they come to collect the trash from our homes.

Vivaan says that the character of a garbage collector has been an exciting one as he got to speak in the typical ‘Bombaiya tapori’ dialect. He says that he is a true Bombay boy who has grown up listing to the dialect and it was even more fun to practise onscreen.

The film tells a story of a young student called Bandhan, who is forced to take up the job of a scrap dealer to survive and eventually he comes across a bag full of gold coins which instead of changing his life, puts him in threat, emotional turmoil and betrayal. Directed by Varadraj Swami, the film features Zoya Afroz and Abhishek Bajaj. “Kabaad: The Coin” streams on MX Player.
