Megastar Rajinikanth received a poor box office response with his last outing, Darbar, and his fans across the country have been eagerly waiting for his next release, Annaatthe. However, the latest reports suggest that his fans would have to wait longer as the makers are in no mood to resume production any soon.

While it was earlier reported that the movie has been shelved by the makers due to the financial crisis arose from the Coronavirus pandemic, the makers had refuted such claims. Now a source close to the development of the movie informs that the makers are not planning to resume shooting Annaatthe until next year. The source informs that Rajinikanth is currently prioritising his health in the ongoing pandemic and doesn’t want to resume working until situation normalizes. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding the same so far.

The makers had wrapped the first shooting schedule of the movie with the lead cast at Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City before the pandemic-induced lockdown was imposed. The cast and crew were to fly abroad for the second shooting schedule but along with other projects across the country, production activities of Annaatthe was halted.

Helmed by Siruthai Siva, Annaatthe stars Rajinikanth as the protagonist with Khushbu Sundar, Meena, Keerthy Suresh and Nayanthara as prominent characters. The action drama began filming with the working title of Thalaivar 168 and in February, the title of the movie was announced with a motion poster.
