Its time to bring in a new dimension to the idea of how love stories are portrayed in movies, especially Hindi cinema. Love is not always about a boy and a girl falling head over heels for each other, but sometimes it is about the irregularity in the pattern that dare to defy the existing theory of romance and ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’ (ELKDTAL) is epitomizing this unsettled concept in the most convincing way.

With debutant Shelly Chopra Dhar helming the project featuring the father-daughter duo Anil Kapoor-Sonam Kapoor along with Rajkumar Rao and Juhi Chawla, ELKDTAL first official trailer was released today, which has filled us with absolute joy.

The trailer of the movie gives us a glimpse into the life of Sweety played by Sonam who grew up with the conventional idea of true love and marriage and of the thought that ‘Love feels nothing if it has no combats’. She also grew up with a secret no one knew about, a secret that if spoken out loud would bring shame to her and family in the society, but things become difficult when her family starts looking for a perfect match  a.k.a “groom” for her.

Bollywood is often blamed for romanticizing and glorifying wrong doings. However, its great to see Bollywood slowly reworking on its content and moving towards making out of the box films, keeping it subtle using conventional tools.  Fact being, in today’s day and age its a task to normalise things that are actually normal and genuine. But when stars like Anil Kapoor and Sonam encourage such projects, it gives us hope.

The title of the movie which has been taken from 1994’s Anil Kapoor and Manisha Koirala starrer ‘1942: A Love Story’ is going to be an unexpected and unconventional love story of Sweety a.k.a. Sonam.

Rajkumar who has shared screen space with both the father-daughter duo in ‘Fanney Khan’ and ‘Dolly Ki Doli’, respectively, is playing the role of a regular guy who  like anyone is besotted by Sweety in the first instance, but eventually becomes the guy who helps her to narrate her story to the world and requests the audience to not use their minds, but their heart.

The trailer also gives a glimpse of the graceful Juhi Chawla in her charming dynamic and chemistry with co-star Anil Kapoor, which is suffice to bring smiles on everyone’s faces.

Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra in collaboration with Fox Star Studios, the movie is all set to break stereotypes and will hit the cinema theatres on February 1st, 2019.
