Bollywood films have increasingly started to delve into themes beyond traditional boy-meets-girl romance, exploring the complexities of queer relationships. Ayushmann Khurrana, known for his unconventional choice of movies, stars in Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, both narrating the challenges faced by queer couples. To celebrate Pride Month and honour the LGBTQIA+ community’s diverse forms of love, production house T-Series has partnered with Colour Yellow and Guy In The Sky to re-release the two movies in theatres on June 21.

Starting this Friday, fans can enjoy these groundbreaking films in their nearest cinemas. Produced by T-Series, these re-releases aim to entertain and serve as poignant reminders of the diversity and resilience within the LGBTQIA+ community. A statement from T-Series highlighted that this initiative seeks to honour the identities of LGBTQIA+ individuals and promote broader acceptance and understanding. By showcasing these films during Pride Month, the re-releases make a meaningful contribution to the celebration on the silver screen.

Both movies feature Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead but delve into different unconventional love stories. Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan vividly depicts the lives of two gay men in love, as they confront and overcome the obstacles of familial acceptance. The narrative unfolds with heartfelt authenticity, highlighting the intricate challenges LGBTQIA+ individuals face in their pursuit of love and understanding. The film boasts an impressive cast including Gajraj Rao, Neena Gupta, Manavi Gagroo, and Pankhuri Awasthy Rode, and was first released on February 21, 2020.

On the other hand, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui narrates the unconventional love story of Manu, a bodybuilder from Chandigarh, who finds himself falling for Maanvi, a male Zumba instructor disguised as a woman. Their relationship is filled with humor and warmth but faces trials when Maanvi’s true identity is revealed, challenging both societal norms and personal beliefs. Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, the movie premiered on December 10, 2021.\
