Yami Gautam’s political thriller, Article 370, faces an unexpected setback as it gets banned in Gulf countries. This marks the second film this year to undergo censorship in the region, following Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s Fighter. Despite earning praise from both audiences and critics, the Gulf ban adds a sombre note to the Hindi film industry’s recent endeavours. Article 370 has already showcased impressive performance with a weekend collection of Rs. 25.45 crore, outperforming several recent releases. The film is also making strides in overseas markets like Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the USA, and Canada.

The surprising ban in Gulf countries raises eyebrows, considering the region’s flourishing tourism industry and the prevalent trend of Indian movies being shot there. While Indian cinema maintains a dedicated fan base in the Gulf, the absence of films like Article 370 underscores a concerning pattern of censorship and limited cultural exchange. According to the news agency ANI, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain have all banned Article 370.

This high-octane action political drama, starring Yami Gautam and directed by National Award-winner Aditya Suhas Jambhale, is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar, and Lokesh Dhar. Despite the Gulf setback, Article 370, released worldwide on 23rd February 2024, continues to make waves both domestically and internationally.
